Not disimilar in style to Claire Scully, Iain Macarthur’s Wildlife set of illustrations possess such detail, and tonal variation and depth, that each item is quite a delight to behold.

Iain Macarthur is originally from Swindon in the UK. He recounts his style in his own words:

“My work is described as surreal and unique in its own way. Using mostly pencil, watercolours and pigment pens, I create portraits of ordinary people, but create them in a unusual way by embelishing patterns and watercolour effects into the portrait to give a vivid explosion effect….”

Claire Scully’s illustrations should be regarded as second to none. An intricate methodology combined with love for the art of illustration produces such examples as Wolf above.

Claire describes herself:

I have a geeky obsession with science fiction books, TV and films. I am fascinated by the play of ideologies in the utopias and dystopias of science fiction, the creation of landscapes and societies where the impossible is made possible.

My work displays a mix of strange utopian worlds and parallel universes with juxtapositions of the unexpected, playing with scale and narrative.

Siggi Eggertsson is a designer and illustrator from Iceland, and is one of the artists slated to appear in ‘Pick Me Up’, a contemporary graphic art fair at Somerset House in London.

Eggertsson, alongside other designers such as Hvass&Hannibal, Mr Bingo and Pierre Nguyen, will be commissioning exclusive prints for purchase at the show. So buy a ticket, attend the event and get your grubby mits on a future treasure…

Skineart is a site dedicated to the collection of sketches, doodles, illustrations and fully-fledged fine art pieces rendered beautifully in Moleskine notebooks.

The piece above, by an artist with the handle MattiasA, is a great example of what inspirational designs can come from spending time with a pen and pad.

But to what extent is the author inspired by the history of the Moleskine itself? Picasso is often cited as a Moleskine adopter; does this link with a master of art inspire all moleskine users to produce feets of design to the best of their ability?

Kate Atkin is a young, talented artist from Odstock, Wiltshire with an absolute flair for detailed, abstract drawing.

Her pieces are combinations, splicings of different scenes and objects drawn with chaotic intricacy.

In his own words, Andy Kehoe “…was the son of a sea merchant that was killed by pirates when he was just three years old.” Regardless of this hoaxsome tragedy, Kehoe has gone on to become an eminent player in the contemporary US art scene.

This month, Kehoe is exhibiting for the second time at the Thinkspace Gallery in LA. The show, titled The World Unseen and Those In Between, is Kehoe’s second exhibition at Thinkspace. He describes the show…

“The World Unseen is a place where the spirits of the dead, the never living and the yet to be all reside. This world lies unnoticed to the living yet each world shapes the other. The thinnest of curtains separate the worlds and they perpetually intertwine and overlap. Some live between both worlds and are neither living nor dead, but something more fantastic and in some cases all the more horrible.”

This poster entitled SUGOI! by the two person studio, TADO, is really very cool. Based in Sheffield, UK, the pair, Mike and Katie, dedicate their days to creating cool characters and rich, sumptious illustrations for customers and cool people alike.

The SUGOI! poster originally began life as a commission for Virgin Atlantic, and following the success of the design, the pair decided to remix it into something a bit more personal, and use sales of the print to benefit the charity, Western Part Hospital Cancer. Great design, great cause.

Like a game of chess, Mr. Burgerman considers his next amendment to the wall of Bou Tea…

It’s no secret that MikeStaines.Com is a fan of Jon Burgerman, but to say that the live drawing event at Bou Tea, Covent Garden, London on the 8th October 2009 was great is simply an understatement.

Attended by friends, fans and industry heavyweights alike, the evening soiree at Bou Tea was a combination of iPhone launches, live wall mural-ising, cup cakes and booze.

However, the live event was not the only thing occuring in Burgerman World on the 7th, for it also saw the release of a new screenprint at Burgerplex, Jon’s new online shop. Check it out ‘Sorryfantastic’ and grab one whilst they’re hot!

Gaku Imai, also known as Peanuts Taste, is a freelance illustrator / graphic designer from Okayama, Japan.

Recently featured in Dangerous Ink’s relaunch issue, Peanuts Taste composes his work with vivid, pop colours, utilising hard, strong lines and geometric methods to create striking images such as Heavy Metal Boy above.
